This free professional development webinar by Freelance Educational Consultant, Teacher of 44 years, Teacher Trainer and Maverick, Jim Baker for all educators and educatees who wish to move into the 21st century. The live webinar is one-hour long and takes place on 17 March 1900 GMT. Slides and a video recording of this session will be available to all who enroll.
Turning Teaching on its Head
In his many articles, blogs and presentations Jim points out the folly of the conventional way of delivering information in class (something the students can do for themselves without the aid of the teacher) and then setting questions for homework when the teacher is not there but an activity for which the teacher is needed. In ‘flipped learning’ the students prepare for the lesson beforehand so the lesson time can be spent with the students doing questions on the prepared work when the teacher is there to help them. This lesson time is also spent with the teacher helping the students to ‘make sense’ of the work.
Conventional lesson, if a student misses a point early on in the lesson, the remainder of the lesson may not be fully understood. With ‘flipped learning’ a student can reread the passage or rewind the video as many times is necessary until it is understood (one cannot rewind the teacher).
In this session, we’ll look at ‘flipped learning’ and see how the platform ‘Twiducate’ complements it to provide for 24/7/365 learning.
